Senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Dr Govinda KC has reached flood-affected Dalit community in Kanchanpur, Saptari, to provide them with medical treatment.
KC had taken only nine days rest following his 11th hunger strike, which he postponed after 23 days, before leaving for the flood-hit region. He had to be administered with saline drip on Thursday night and began treatment on Friday.
There are some 4,000 people, majority of them Dom, Chamar, Sada, among other Dalit groups, living in the community.
Around 500 people have gathered to receive medical treatment from KC. One Bhola Chaudhary, 74, returning after receiving medicines for injuries to his legs suffered during the floods, said he had heard the name of the doctor and expressed his delight after meeting him.
KC also distributed clothes and chocolates to elderly and children of the community.
