Nepal defeated defending champions Bangladesh to enter the final of the Saff U-15 Championship football tournament with a nervy 4-2 victory at the Anfa Complex in Satdobato, Lalitpur on Friday.
In what was expected to be an evenly-contested duel, Nepal went 3-0 up after 64 minutes but Bangladesh scored two goals in two minutes through Foysal Ahmed to turn the match on its head. However, the hosts managed to hold firm and found their fourth goal in the last minute of the extra time to go through.
Nepal will now meet another strong contender India who defeated Bhutan 3-0 in the second semi-final match at the Nepal APF Headquarters in Halchowk.
Nepal went ahead in the game as early as fifth minute through Aaksh Budha Magar who slotted home from close range after being fed by Randip Poudel's low cross. Budha Magar was once again in the scoresheet in the 30th minute.
Bangladesh upped their game in the second half but under pressure Nazmul Biswas inadvertently shot at his own goal as Nepal went 3-0 up in the 64th minute.
The capacity crowd at the Anfa Complex were left stunned when Ahmed scored twice in two minutes. In the 72nd minute, his freekick converted into a spectacular goal and a minute later the midfielder tapped home from close range after Nepali defenders erred.
Just as Nepali dug out was waiting for the final whistle, Birjesh Chaudhary made sure that they finish the match on high scoring in the final minute.
